Project Role & Details

Client: Illinois Tollway Authority
Location: DeKalb, IL

Construction Manager leading team to construct this project located on Interstate 88 west of Annie Glidden Road Exit in DeKalb, Illinois. The new toll plaza Open Road Tolling (ORT) project consisted of building 4 new NB / SB cash lanes with exit ramps, two new NB / SB ORT (stop-free toll collection) lanes and a new plaza structure on both NB and SB sides to include the mono-tube reader system over the ORT lanes. Since the plaza was located several miles to the east of the existing plaza, widening of the existing ROW allowed the grading limits needed to widen the entire plaza section. Managed roadway grading, paving, drainage, lighting, MOT, plaza building, demolition of existing plaza and coordination with the ORT IPASS reader system. Work also included construction of a Toll Authority salt storage shed facility along with paving of that facility parking lot. Project was on an extremely accelerated schedule requiring continuous monitoring and coordination with contractor. Project began in mid-March 2006. ORT lanes were open August 2006 with full project completion by February 2007.

This project occurred concurrently with the Dixon, IL ORT Plaza Project.  Mr. Beier managed both plaza construction management teams.
